Supporting a New Charity Hub in Derby City Centre

Safe and Sound Group in Derby transforms the lives of children and young people in Derbyshire who are affected by child exploitation. Their new base in the City Centre is integral to this mission, allowing their team to expand their services and promote recovery.

Creating a safe and welcoming space

CEO Tracy Harrison says: "Our new city centre premises, Melbourne House, will serve as a visible and accessible City Centre Hub. It's critically important because it's a direct response to the demand for the charity's services having more than doubled since the pandemic began.

The new location is a purpose-built, secure and welcoming hub designed to significantly increase the capacity for vital one-to-one support, therapeutic activities and outreach for vulnerable young people and their families."

For such a worthy cause, only the best quality products would suffice. We therefore reached out to one of our most trusted suppliers, Deanta, to source a range of bespoke solutions that would align with Safe and Sound Group's mission.

Practicality meets purpose and passion

For this project, we supplied and fitted UPVC windows, timber windows and exterior doors. In partnership with Deanta, we also supplied flush oak door sets, flush oak glazed door sets and flush white fire door sets, complete with a range of ironmongery configurations to suit.

Doors and windows are, of course, a practical component of any build. But as part of a project like this, they have a significant (and often overlooked) emotional impact. Fire rated doors make a building feel so much safer. Meanwhile, glazed doors and windows make spaces appear instantly lighter and more open. The product choices here are key to ensuring everyone feels that warm welcome and instant protection. A true safe space for all.

Optimum compartmentalisation supports the core purpose, too. The doors and windows chosen means Safe and Sound Group can safely increase capacity and offer multiple sessions at once, while taking care to ensure sound reduction and complete privacy.

Tracy says: "The doors in particular feel secure, solid and welcoming. All the products supplied by Vibrant Doors have helped to contribute to this efficient workspace and dedicated safe haven for the young people of Derby and Derbyshire."

Speaking generally about the project, Safe and Sound Group's Chair of Trustees Mark Richardson has stated that the new hub is a "testament to the resilience of our staff and the unwavering commitment of our community to child safety" specifically highlighting the successful completion of the space itself.

Proudly serving our community

It was an honour to support the success of this project. We look forward to hearing about the positive impact Melbourne House has on Safe and Sound Group's vital work, as well as the wider Derbyshire community.

Tracy concludes: "Safe and Sound Group would certainly work with Vibrant Doors again and couldn't recommend you more highly. The impact of this community collaboration and the resulting purpose-built hub dramatically increases the charity's capacity to deliver vital services, thereby ensuring no child is left without support."

Chair of Trustees Mark Richardson noted that the project "would not have been possible" without the support of local businesses and construction partners. We'd also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved, truly a result to be proud of.
